This is a project that was completed in late summer of 2009. We will step back in time and take you through the process of this restoration, that brought this tired old 87' GTI back to life in order to hit the show scene and the track!

Stay tuned for more!!

Much like building a house.....starting with a good foundation, the best front a rear subframes were selected to be blasted and coated.

A small repair needed to be seam sealed, after which the entire underbelly was coated.

FK performace suspension completed the installation of our subframe and rear axle.Drool

(notice the new PVC coated brake lines and AEB braided flex lines.

Hawk brake pads and Sebro disks with new callipers, were next on the list.

New brake master cylinder, lines, steering rack installed and reconditioned booster.

Under belly coated and all exhaust shields in place....ready for engine/transmission install.

We Rebuilt the cylinder head(soory no pics.)

Unfortunately it was discovered at ths time that the original crankshaft had been damaged in it's 23 years of service!Bored
....so, it would have to be replaced 'in car'

Just to keep you posted - we made it down to TMP for the evening lapping session on July 16 and got the tires heat cycled. The car handled beautifully with virtually no body roll, very good balance (no front end understeer) and grip and the brakes did not show any fading after a 12 lap stint. I've got a couple of pictures that I'll send separately.

One problem - my floor jack would not fit under the car, so we had to put it up on 2X4's. It was okay on the gravel driveway at home, but there is no cheating on the asphalt. Anybody out there have a low profile floor jack for sale - cheap?
